Allan Holdsworth - VELVET DARKNESS (1976 CTI Records) US

ARAGORN - The Suite (1973 Merry Go Round records) Aussie progressive rock Jethro Tull influenced

Australian progressive rock band in 1973-1974

Forerunner of Snakes Alive. Their 1973 recording, 'The Suite', was released 50 years after it was recorded. Dont be confused with the UK '78 band which we'll bring back too soon

MANTRA - Mantra (1979 Vinyl Rip) Spanish progressive rock

Mantra, a Spanish band from Cádiz, released their self-titled debut album in 1979, but they were playing since 1969 and specially in Cadiz music festivals, one of the most important festivals in Spain of the era. This album, often referred to as "un granito de arena" (a small grain of sand) in the Spanish rock scene, is a masterpiece that deserves to be rediscovered and appreciated. The album's sound is a blend of progressive rock, symphonic rock, and hard rock, with intricate arrangements and complex song structures. The music is characterized by lush guitar work, soaring keyboards, and driving rhythms. The band's sound is heavily influenced by British progressive rock bands like Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson, but with a distinctly Spanish flavor. The album's opening track, "En el Umbral," sets the tone for the rest of the album, with its majestic instrumental intro and soaring vocals. The song's tempo changes and time signature shifts are reminiscent of Yes's "Close to the Edge." The following track, "Más Allá," features a catchy guitar riff and a memorable chorus, showcasing the band's ability to craft hooks and melodies

Lead vocalist and guitarist Carlos García's voice is one of the album's standout features. His powerful and emotive delivery adds depth and nuance to the songs, often conveying a sense of longing or introspection. His guitar work is also impressive, with intricate fingerpicking and soaring solos. The lyrics are largely introspective and poetic, exploring themes of love, spirituality, and self-discovery. The songs often feature abstract metaphors and vivid imagery, adding to the album's mystical and dreamlike quality. The production quality is surprisingly high considering the album's age. The mixing is clear and well-balanced, allowing each instrument to shine. The sound is warm and intimate, with a distinctive warmth that adds to the album's charm. Mantra's self-titled debut has had a significant influence on the Spanish rock scene, inspiring generations of musicians and fans alike. The album's unique blend of progressive rock and symphonic elements has made it a staple of Spanish rock music. Mantra - Mantra (1979) is a hidden gem in the world of Spanish rock music. The album's intricate arrangements, soaring vocals, and poetic lyrics make it a must-listen for fans of progressive rock and symphonic music. Even after decades since its release, the album remains a testament to the band's innovative spirit and musical genius. If you're looking for a journey through the Spanish rock scene's golden era, look no further than this album
